5 Tips To Motivate You To Workout


It’s 6am and you have every intention to get up and run or head to the gym when your alarm goes off. You roll around under the sheets requesting just five more minutes. Then thirty minutes. Before you know it, it’s 8am and you have to rush out to work. Or maybe it’s 5pm and the weekday is complete. You planned to go to the gym straight from work but you left your workout clothes at home. You get home and then suddenly a trip to the gym becomes a movie night with food and wine.

We have all had a moment like one of the above. We have every intention to workout, we are motivated and eager to release some endorphins. Then something happens- we get side-tracked, busy or lazy…

Here are five motivating suggestions to push you past getting side-tracked or laziness:

1. Put your feet on the floor!

The first step is always the hardest but the longer you lay and contemplate getting out of the bed,  the longer you will want to stay in bed. If you get up on the first alarm you can quickly throw on clothing, splash warm water on your face and get out the door.

2. Get an accountability partner!

If you don’t feel comfortable working out alone or need the extra push, get a workout partner or join a group. If you plan to meet up in the morning, you wouldn’t want to have your friend waiting around for you because you hit snooze and you miss their phone call, right?

3. Create a vision board.

We may not be aware of our progress or setbacks unless it’s in front of us. Create a vision board with your fitness and wellness goals and promise yourself that you are going to achieve everything you envisioned. Use a dry erase board to write down weekly goals and check it daily to stay on track.

4. The power of social media.

If you’re a heavy social media user, take advantage of your social networks by having your followers hold you accountable. Post that you plan to run 5 miles in the morning and post a pic when you complete your run. You’ll love the motivation and encouragement that you’ll receive.

5. Create mental motivation.

You are your biggest motivator or downfall. You can only be one! Choose to be a motivator by saying positive words and daily mantras to yourself. Watch inspirational youtube videos and read inspirational books! Your body achieves what the mind believes. Let it only believe motivation, determination and success.
