How To Build Your Home Gym On Any Budget

This past summer, I decided that I was ready to take control of my running again and train for the Philly Half Marathon (my first since Feb 2016). If I was serious, I knew that I would have to make drastic changes to my routine. I had to train the way that I would instruct my clients to by mixing up my runs, incorporating more strength training and following a stretching routine.

5 Things To Look For When Choosing A Strength Training Class

If you’ve ever followed along a distance running plan, you’ve probably come across the terms “cross-training” or “strength-training” on your schedule. Sadly, if you’re like most of the runners I know, you either skip those workouts or opt for a friendly yoga or spin class. Now before you spit out your coffee, I’m not saying yoga and spin are bad (I enjoy doing both workouts!). What I’m saying is that if you want to reduce your chance of injury and become a stronger runner, your cross-training should also include at least one or two days of weight training.

Recap: We Attended Wanderlust 108 in Philadelphia

Disclaimer: I attended Wanderlust 108 on behalf of Swisse USA (you’ll learn more about them below!)

My first experience at Wanderlust 108 was amazing! New to Wanderlust 108? It’s a day-long ‘mindful triathlon’ where attendees complete a 5K, yoga, and guided meditation (three of my favorite activities) in the same day. I was invited by our friends at Swisse Wellness, Australia’s number one vitamin and supplement company, to attend Wanderlust 108 and the Swisse Discover Happiness Experience. If you’re considering attending Wanderlust 108 in the future or you’re just interested in how it went, continue reading below for my full recap.

Recap: We Tried Focus Barre & Yoga

We were excited to host (2) private sessions at Focus Barre & Yoga in Rittenhouse for a few reasons. First, we hosted a private session with them FOUR years ago when they first opened their doors. It's amazing to see how much they've grown. Second, Jill and her team are absolutely amazing.

They were very welcoming, kind, and supportive. All the traits you need when considering joining any studio. Lastly, the workouts are unique (and tough). You will feel like you've accomplished all there is to accomplish after just one session in this studio.

Recap: We Tried BPM Fitness

If you haven't tried BPM Fitness yet, you are missing out. They have created a very unique workout experience unlike anything I've seen in the Philadelphia area. When I first tried the studio a few weeks ago, I joined without any hesitation. I felt strong, empowered, and like a total badass. When the opportunity came up for City Fit Girls to host two private workouts, we jumped on it right away.

45-Minute Stationary Bike and Dumbbells Workout

Trying to figure out what workout to do at the gym can be overwhelming. You're surrounded by machines and people who look like they know exactly what they're doing. Instead of asking for help, you find yourself intimidated by the whole experience and head to the sauna for some quick relief. Whew.

If you've ever found yourself in this situation, this workout is for you.

Recap: City Fit Girls x Fit Tribe

This past weekend, we headed to Center City for two back-to-back sessions at Fit Tribe, a gym that provides both group personal training as well as one-on-one personal training. We learned about this gym from our friend and Coach, Rosie, who teaches at their Bryn Mawr location. She hosted a workout at last year's City Fit Girls' FitRetreat and we heard nothing but positive reviews. The best part about Fit Tribe? All workouts are just 30-minutes!
