Recap: We Tried WE/FIT at City Fitness

By Takia McClendon

We've been making our way around Philadelphia connecting the City Fit Girls community with workouts, gyms and studios. This past weekend, we teamed up with our friends at City Fitness to bring you two back-to-back WE/FIT workouts.

Last year, we partnered with City Fitness to kick off their My City Moves Campaign and participated in one of their Thrive workouts. When we heard about the chance to give their new program (and gym) a try, we jumped at the chance.

What is City Fitness? City Fitness is a Philadelphia-based gym with five (soon to be six) locations in the area. Their gyms have strength training equipment, cardio machines, group workouts, and more.

What's the scoop on WE/FIT? WE/FIT is a Tabata-style, partner-based workout that progresses both through each month and over time, meaning you’re always experiencing a new version of the program and measuring your progress by how you’re able to move.

What Should You Expect When You Try The Workout? WE/FIT is broken up into individual stations with a different circuit for you and your partner to try out. The circuits are face-paced and use either body weight, kettlebells, dumbbells, or other equipment to engage your whole body.

It's fun but it's not easy.  Out of the 8 stations (16 total workouts), I struggled through the ones that focused on core and hip strength. This workout was definitely a reminder to incorporate more strength-training to my routine.

Although WE/FIT was a challenge, we had a great time! Nikki, our instructor, was helpful throughout the entire experience. He made sure we were doing movements correctly and encouraged us along the way. You can check out photos from our workout below.

During the instruction on the exercises, everything seemed easy. After the first station, you could feel that you were working muscles that you normally wouldn’t use. It was a great workout and it was awesome to spend the time with my fellow City Fit Girls’ ladies. I definitely would go back!

City Fit Girls x We/Fit was awesome! As an existing We/Fit member, it was really exciting to experience the class with my favorite group of ladies. We pushed ourselves past our limits, and came out of the class stronger than ever!

I really enjoyed the variety of challenges that Nikki had for us. I particularly enjoyed the bungee squats and the wood choppers on the cables. There was no time to feel bored because it was onto the next challenge, the hour definitely flew by.
