Studios & Gyms That Will Change The Way You Look At Working Out
By Kiera Smalls
Ever go to a gym but feel unsure of what to do once you get there? Are you tired of having to wait in line for weights after the "I like to pick things up and put them down" bros finish their reps? Trying to get in a 30 to 45-minute sweat sesh shouldn't be so daunting. It should be fun!
And that's where fitness boutiques, or personalized fitness studios, come in. They are small and personable with some seriously creative programming. While the costs for these unique experiences can get pricey, let's just rejoice at the fact that there are new ways to workout and have fun while doing it. Keep reading to find some of our favorites!
New York City
S10 Training - The S10 system wants you to achieve optimal body fat index — sub-10% for men, sub-15% for women. They help you to accomplish this via weight training and nutrition support. This small gym is a popular one. We've even seen a few celebrities frequent the place. The luxury gym is perfect for anyone who prefers personal space and attention.
Aqua Studio - Aqua studio wants to change the way you experience spin classes. And get this - the pool isn't just for swimming or aqua Zumba anymore. This indoor cycling experience is both a high-intensity cardio and full-body toning with classes ranging from 30 minutes to an hour. No, you don't need goggles or a swim cap.
Warrior Fitness Bootcamp - If you are someone who struggles with discipline and/or someone who wants to up their fitness regime, this is the workout for you. Warrior Fitness Bootcamp is based on the principles and rigors of the U.S. Marine Corps. Their bootcamps include obstacles, circuit training, running and more. It's time to turn up those workouts, ladies.
305 Fitness - Sometimes you just want to let loose and not think about the next rep or routine. This is where 305 fitness is the perfect option. They turn your workout into a dance party leaving you feeling like you just left the nightclub (after a 3PM class!).
[solidcore] - Solidcore is 50 minutes of high-intensity, low impact controlled resistance movements. Don't let the slow routines fool you. Your muscles will shake and it will be one of the hardest workouts you'll ever experience. Abs are made in the kitchen and at solidcore.
Kaya Aerial Yoga - This is for the thrill seekers. Kaya Aerial Yoga is a different approach to yoga that will surely leave you feeling refreshed, stretched, and ready to take on anything at new heights. They also pride themselves on being a welcoming, non-intimidating safe space -- something we support 110%.
Fit Academy Studio - Osayi Osunde has surely made a name for himself in the Philly fitness scene with his popular outdoor bootcamps and recently-opened Brewerytown gym. The workouts are the perfect balance between sports driven exercise, full body plyometrics, cardio, and high-intensity interval training. We've seen up to 100 people in his outdoor bootcamps. Yay to meeting (and working out with) new friends!
Freehouse Fitness - A relatively new studio in Philly, Freehouse Fitness offers a mix of resistance band, rebounder and reformer classes. The "free" in its name is not related to price but that they pride themselves on being free from methods and rules.
Eb & Flow Studio - This mother-daughter duo has created a community for new and experienced yogis to namaste together. And for those who are intimidated by yoga, they say that "if you can breathe, you can do yoga". So, there's that.
Lateral Fitness - From kettlebells to pilates to nutrition, this is your one-stop shop for all things fitness and wellness. Their mission is to help you think outside the box when doing your workouts. Don't go in thinking you're going to get the same experience as another Chicago gym because you won't.
