Recap: City Fit Girls Try FlyWheel
By Takia McClendon
It's been a while since we had our last indoor cycling class so we were very excited to partner with our friends at Flywheel to host a private (after hours) workout for City Fit Girls! If you've never taken an indoor cycling (sometimes referred to as spin) class, be sure to read this recap!
What is Flywheel? Flywheel Sports is an indoor cycling studio that challenges riders to beat their personal bests. How? Each bike is connected to a monitor to display how the rider performs throughout the class. (Don't worry, you can use an alias or opt out of being displayed).
The Class Environment: It's hard to tell if you're in a nightclub or a fitness class because of the of the dark room, loud music and high energy within the stadium. Our instructor, Alanna Gardner, definitely brought the energy to our private class!
What Should You Expect When You Try The Workout: When you arrive at Flywheel, you'll check-in, grab a pair of cycling shoes, and toss your belongings in a locker. The classes are 45 minutes or 60 minutes of instruction (including arm workouts with weights (nope, it's not just about the legs).
Your instructor will guide you through the class based on Torq level and BPM using a tech pad installed on each bike. This will allow you to measure your progress throughout the class. If you use the Flywheel app, you can track your progress over time to see how you improve as you take more classes.
Oh, and even though this wasn't my first time taking a Flywheel class, I still struggled to clip in and out of the bike in my cycling shoes. Be sure to grab one of the helpful staff members if you struggle with the same thing.
On a scale of 1-10, how hard is Flywheel? Trick question. It's really about how much you put in. If you keep your Torq low and tune out your instructor, you could have a relatively easy ride. If you follow along with the instructor, pick up your cadence and your Torq, you will be just as winded (but good!) as I felt when I left the class!
