How To Get Fit For Free in New York City

Between boutique fitness studios and upscale gym memberships, working out in NYC can cost about 20¢ per drop of sweat shredded, give or take a dollar or fifty. When most of your income goes toward rent, Uber rides, and that kind-of-sort-of essential thing called food, how’s a city girl supposed to afford fitness? Fortunately, for every pricey workout, there’s a free one that’s just as sweat-tastic, so we’re here to share all the best ways you can get fit for free in NYC:


This fit and fashionable retail outlet offers free classes all day long starting at 9am. Their schedule boasts everything from yoga and Pilates to HIIT and Zumba. Many classes take place at their Flatiron Studio, but check out their schedule for a full class list, schedule and locations.

Bryant Park Yoga

Make your way to Bryant Park every Tuesday morning at 10am and Thursday evening at 6pm through September for hour-long yoga classes led by instructors curated from Yoga Journal. Mats are provided, and if you get yourself a Frequent Yogi Card, you can get it stamped at each workout to earn rewards from both Yoga Journal and Athleta.

CrossFit Outbreak Bootcamp


This Brooklyn-based box offers free boot camp classes every Saturday morning at 8:45am in McCarren Park. Meet out the track by Union and Bayard to enjoy, or well… endure, tough and sweaty workouts taught by some of the best CrossFit coaches around.

Lululemon Workout Wednesday Summer Series

Lululemon has partnered with some of the hottest studios and instructors across the city (think Pure Barre & Mile High Run Club) to offer complimentary workouts on Wednesday evenings through September. Try them all to get a taste of every type of workout around.

Meatpacking Sweat Sessions

Head to Hudson River Park every Tuesday night through August for a variety of kickass fitness classes. There are three different 45-minute classes offered each week at 6, 7 and 8pm including yoga, boot camps, running workouts and more. Afterwards, head to Samsung’s new 837 space for complimentary post-workout refreshments and entertainment.

November Project


Explore different parts of the city while you sweat with the November Project. The NYC chapter hosts group runs and workouts every Wednesday morning on the Upper East Side and every Friday morning at a surprise location announced the day before on social media.
