Going the Distance with Brittani Adams

Meet Brittani Adams, an avid runner and workout enthusiast in the Philadelphia area. She recently raced in the Philadelphia Marathon and BQ'ed (qualified for Boston). We caught up with Brittani after the race to learn more about her running regime and any motivation she has for new and experienced female runners looking to run their fastest race. 

City Fit Girls (CFG): How did you first get into the running? 

Brittani: It must be in my DNA because I honestly can't remember "not" running. As a kid, I was VERY active. My parents told me I that walked at 9 months and my older sisters would always race with me. 

CFG: What does your daily/weekly fitness routine look like?

Brittani: I train 4-6 days a week, averaging about 50 miles. On "rest" days, I enjoy Zumba, Yoga, Pilates and TRX. 

The Nike app tells me I clocked over 1,000 miles this year. 

CFG: What is your favorite fitness brand (clothing)? 

Brittani: Nike Nike Nike! 

CFG: Are there any products or running gear that you can't live without during training? 

Brittani: Yes, I can't train without Herbalife's Prepare, CR-7, Prolong and Rebuild (in that order lol) 

CFG: Many of the women in our network are new to running. What can new runners do to improve their running?

Brittani: Hydration and proper nutrition are key! Stretch before and after a run, build mileage gradually and always listen to your body. Most importantly, have fun! 

CFG: What advice can you give to runners who want to get faster?

Brittani: Train, train, train. Practice really does make improvements. Even as a distance runner, speed workouts are still a must! 

CFG: Have you ever set a goal that you didn't reach? 

Brittani: (Sigh) I'm still trying to break a 6-minute mile. Only 2 seconds to go! I also need to BQ again with a slightly faster time in order to get picked for the 2018 Boston Marathon.

CFG: What keeps you motivated?

Brittani: My threenager, Fallynn (threenager: a 3 year old that acts like a teenager lol) . She kept saying, "I want to run like mommy"... so I registered her in the Healthy Kids Running Series 50 yd dash and she LOVED it!
