Get Outdoors: City Fit Girls Philly Hike

By Takia McClendon

Temps are dropping in our hometown but that's no reason to stay indoors. Since we never pass up a chance to meet new people, go on new adventures, or catch beautiful views of our city, putting together a City Fit Girls hike was a priority on our to-do list.

We started in Philadelphia's Chestnut Hill neighborhood and headed out for a 6 mile hike through the Wissahickon Gorge at Wissahickon Valley Park.

The Gorge is home to 50 miles of rugged trails (yes, in Philadelphia's city limits!). It's home to the city's only remaining covered bridge (pictured above).

According to the Friends of the Wissahickon, the park "once served as the hunting and fishing grounds of the Lenni Lenape. It later became the site of more than 25 mills that were built along its banks in the 1800s and numerous taverns and roadhouses were built along the Wissahickon Turnpike, now known as Forbidden Drive."

Now it serves as a great place to experience nature without having to leave town. Check out a few photos from our hike.
